Extended Bio Profile:
A dedicated advocate for the downtrodden and the disabled, Ms. Blotney serves as a boarding officer for the Special Education Students Commission in Connecticut. She meets with politicians to get laws changed to enable mentally challenged individuals to attend high school like children of the majority school population. Her greatest accomplishment was getting her own daughter, who was deaf, into high school, from which she graduated with high honors. Utilizing her background in competitive roller skating, Ms. Blotney--who won several dance championships on skates with her husband in the 1950s--became a qualified judge and taught skating. Her students won a couple of national championships and state championships. Among them was her daughter, a Special Olympian who has since become a sign language interpreter. Ms. Blotney is also a ham radio operator and, together with her husband, was called upon to provide alternative means of communications during disasters and emergencies. She was married to her late husband for 40 years. She has two children, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
